This unit specifies the outcomes required for the operation of a powered industrial truck equipped with a mast and an elevating load carriage to which is attached a pair of fork arms or other attachment, for licensing purposes.

Course Description:

Unit of Competency, including National Assessment Instrument:

  • Practical assessment of operator competency to WORKSAFE standards
  • Theory and Maths calculation assessment to WORKSAFE standards. Worksafe Assessor 1712

Course cost is $595.00 - Student to process Worksafe application online and pay fee direct.

(LLN - Language, Literacy and Numeracy requirements)

Good English skills are required to be able to take verbal instructions safely during the practical exercises, to understand the training content and to sit written assessments during this course. All maths calculations must be performed by the learner in written english, without any assistance (calculator allowed).  If student has any language, literacy, learning or numeracy requirements, please contact BADT direct to discuss assistance options if needed. Student must wear enclosed shoes (steel cap preferred) High Vis PPE available to use.

THE COURSE WILL COVER HOW TO

  • Accurately interpret information relating to conducting forklift truck operations (e.g. procedures)
  • Safely conduct forklift truck operations including all functions to the maximum height and load capacity
  • Identify hazards associated with the operation of the forklift truck, assess risks and put into place effective hazard prevention/control measures for those hazards identified
  • Use communication skills at a level sufficient to communicate with other site personnel (e.g. receive and interpret work instructions, safety information, emergency procedures)
  • Drive forklift with load in forward and reverse, maintaining visibility
  • Verify problems and equipment faults and demonstrate appropriate response procedures

knowledge ACQUIRED

  • Methodology of determining the weight of a load
  • Commonwealth, state or territory OSH/WHS legislation.
  • Standards relevant to the safe operation for the forklift trucks
  • Understanding of forklift characteristics and capabilities (including use of load data plates)
  • Understanding of the hierarchy of hazard identification and control
  • Organizational and workplace standards, requirements, policies and procedures for conducting operations for the forklift class
  • Procedures for the recording, reporting and maintenance of workplace records and information
  • Forklift truck operations and safe operating techniques
  • Typical routine problems encountered in the operation of the forklift and equipment and adjustments required for correction

PRE COURSE ONLINE PROGRAM

  • Online Pre-Course learning program is required to be completed prior to attending Day 1 (approx 1-2hrs)

ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS -  3 CompONENTS TO BE ASSESSED:

  • Written assessment UOC – must achieve 100% 
  • Written Assessment Worksafe – must achieve 95% or above on all questions.  Calculations questions you must achieve 100%.
  • Practical Assessment – Worksafe - You must show competence in all tasks and activities. If you do not, you will be assessed as ‘not yet competent.

Worksafe licence submission process (Student to submit & pay fees)

  • Successful completion of this course will result in student being awarded with an INTERIM WORKSAFE NOTICE OF ASSESSMENT TEMPORARY Forklift Licence that is valid for 60 Days only.
  • Student is required to complete an application and submit to Worksafe, along with supporting documentation and payment of fee – WITHIN 60 DAYS OF course completion – to then obtain a Forklift Licence.
  • Supporting documentation provided upon successful completion: Unit of Competency TLILIC30003 and Worksafe Notice of Assessment
  • Details will be provided to each student upon successful completion of course to assist with this process at the  Worksafe WA website.
