Restricted gearbox (Automatic)
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to drive a heavy rigid vehicle safely in compliance with relevant state/territory road and traffic authority licence requirements and regulations including road rules for heavy rigid vehicles. It includes maintaining systematic and efficient control of all vehicle functions, monitoring traffic and road conditions, managing vehicle condition and performance, and effectively managing hazardous situations. Driving is performed with limited or minimum supervision, and with duty of care responsibility for self and others in achieving the prescribed outcomes. Assessments will be recorded as per the WA Department of Transport policy. It is a Department of Transport requirement that a training unit of competence must be completed before assessment can be done. In the event that you are deemed not yet competent in this unit, assessment will be postponed until further training is completed.

ELIGIBILITY:
- TLIC3004 Drive a heavy rigid vehicle: you are eligible for a heavy rigid licence if you have held a C class licence for at least 2 years and are not on any probation OR you have held a MR licence for 1 year or more.
- Student MUST hold a current Western Australian Drivers Licence.
- International Students must have obtained a Learners Permit from DOTMI.
- Eyesight Test must be passed before training can commence - failure will result in forfeit of course and all funds. E114 Heavy Vehicle PDA Customer Eligibility form
- Health and Medical questions must be answered as NO E114 Heavy Vehicle PDA Customer Eligibility form
- If student has any health or medical issue that means they need to select YES, they must contact BADT 10 working days before to enable approval from DOTMI to proceed with booking.
- Medical is NOT required to train or Assess for any Heavy Vehicle licence upgrade.

- UNIQUE STUDENT IDENTIFIER NUMBER (USI) must be provided on booking for all RTO course training. Find my USI
DISABILITY, DIGITAL, LITERACY & NUMERACY:
- Anyone who considers they may struggle with completing the course due to literacy or numeracy issues, must contact the RTO prior to booking any course to discuss how or if we can help you.
- A reasonable level of English, both spoken and written is required. Student must be able to understand all verbal instructions in regards to the practical driver training or they will, most likely, not gain the required skills to be issued with a Statement of Attainment
- If the student is unable to understand, comprehend and complete the online learning program due to limited English then the student may not have the necessary language skills to attain a Statement of Attainment.
- If the student is not able to understand, comprehend and complete the online learning program due to low computer literacy or access issues, they may request a written version or they can use BADT computer equipment at either Busselton or Bunbury depot or regional tablet. Students are able to bring in a 3rd party education provider or support person, to help during the theory training, but they are not allowed to assist during any of the assessments nor practical driver training.
ADDITIONAL FEES: upon lodgement of results DOTMI will charge a Learners Permit fee to be paid by student.

ASSESSMENT: Students must undertake and PASS two (2) separate assessments prior to being eligible to upgrade licence
Assessment 1: Unit of Competency (UOC) must obtain Statement of Attainment in relevant HV class. Written and Practical Driver Training assessment UOC – this must have PASS before student can be eligible to attempt PDA.
Scenario and written Form completion including requiring 100%:

- Hazard identification
- Risk management
- Incidents
- Fatigue management
- Pre-starts
Practical Driver Assessment - in truck and on public roads under all traffic conditions requiring Satisfactory PASS.

Assessment 2: Department of Transport Practical Driving Assessment (PDA)
On road practical driving assessment. Student will be required to demonstrate competency in all areas both on and off road.

RE-ASSESSMENT:
If the student achieves not yet competent (NYC) on their written or practical UOC assessments they will not be able to proceed to the PDA during the planned schedule time.
The student can then book additional training time (at an additional cost), as indicated by their trainer for the next available time.
Please note every effort is made to have additional training times available in a reasonable timeframe.
Once student has passed the UOC they can then attempt PDA.
HR & HC: If student fails their PDA they can do a PDA retest (at an additional cost) at any time as of the next day.
They do not need to attempt the UOC course again, just a driving or PDA retest. They may be advised some additional training is recommended (at an additional cost)
Student can attempt Retest PDA an unlimited number of times - only 1 attempt per working day.

All training and Retest additional costs are available upon enquiry with our administration.
Recognition of Prior learning (RPL) There is RPL available for any of the UOC courses.
This will involve the completion of our RPL pack (available on request) along with the provision of sufficient VOC evidence of experience in the relevant heavy vehicle class required.
This will also involve a written and practical driving assessment, require 100% pass prior to proceeding to an experienced course.
Making final Department of Transport licence upgrade Application.
Once you have completed and passed both assessments you then need to present your documentation to a Department of Transport agent to finalise your licence upgrade. You must provide the following information:
- Proof of ID x 2
- Copy of Statement of Attainment
- Copy of PDA notice of Assessment
- Copy of E114 Eligibility form
- Payment of fee

Upon payment of the required fee your licence will then be upgraded accordingly.
